How much can Captain America Bench Press?

Captain America can bench press 4,000 pounds in both Ultimate and MCU versions. Earth 616 Captain America however, has a considerably weaker bench press, and is only capable of a 1,500 pounds bench press and an overhead press of 800 pounds.

In this article, we’ll be looking at how much Captain America can lift, mainly in the MCU to get an idea of how strong he would be in a gym.

These will include Cap’s bench press, deadlift and squat to see how much the man can actually lift, and see how effective he would be in a gym setting. Strap in boys, you’re going to need a hell of a lot of 45s for this one.

What does Captain America’s Bench Press look like on the bar?

Captain America’s bench press is 4,000 pounds. That’s a lot of weight, but what would that look like in a gym setting. If Cap was setting up with a 45 lb bar (which definitely would not survive 4,000 lbs of plates) it may look something like this.

  • Forty-three 45 lbs plates on each side.
  • One 35 lbs plate on each side.
  • One 5 lbs plate on each side.
  • One 2.5 lbs plate on each side.

A brutal amount of weight for a 45 lbs bar to hold. But we imagine Tony Stark could come up with some kind of adamantium bar which can help support the sheer amount of plates.

How much can Captain America Deadlift?

It is estimated that Captain America can deadlift up to 6,700 pounds. This is the equivalent to deadlifting 3040 kilograms. The theory for Captain America’s deadlift comes from the powerlifter ratio of 3:4:5 (Bench Press : Squat : Deadlift).

If we know that Captain America can bench press 4,000 pounds, we divide this number by 3 and then multiply it by 5. This gives us 6,666.6 pounds – although not quite 6,700 lbs – what’s another 35 pounds to our boy Cap?

What does Captain America’s Deadlift look like on the bar?

To give you an idea of how crazy this would look – using a regular 45 pound barbell, you would have to use:

  • Seventy-three 45 lbs plates on each side.
  • One 35 lbs plate on each side.
  • One 5 lbs plate on each side.
  • One 2.5 lbs plate on each side.

We doubt the bar could survive this, or even be long enough to hold this kind of action – but that’s how it would break down.

To put this into more realistic terms of what this is equal to, Captain America could easily deadlift the tongue of a blue whale (which usually weighs around 6000 pounds).

It’s also around half the weight of an African elephant which typically weighs around 13,000 pounds.

Put it this way, Captain America has one hell of a deadlift, and stripping a bar after the man would be an absolute nightmare.

How much can Captain America Squat?

Captain America can squat 5300 pounds. In metric terms, Captain America can squat 2405 kilograms.

So, how did we arrive at this number? Captain America can squat 5300 pounds if he can bench press 4,000 pounds. Again, we used the powerlifter ratio of 3:4:5 (bench press to squat to deadlift).

What does Captain America’s Squat look like on the bar?

If Captain America can bench press 4000 pounds, he can squat 5300 pounds. If you’re wondering how this would stack up on a standard 45 pound bar, it may look something like this:

  • Fiftyeight 45 lbs plates on each side.
  • One 10 lbs plate on each side.
  • One 5 lbs plate on each side.
  • One 2.5 lbs plate on each side.

Again to put that in perspective, that’s a hell of a lot of weight for Cap to be lifting. In realistic terms that’s more than an adult Black Rhinoceros, which typically weighs 4600 pounds.

It’s also more than a giraffe which typically weighs 4250 pounds. It’s a lot of big animals for the man to squat.

How much can Captain America Lift / Bench Press? (MCU)

Captain America can lift 16,000 pounds in total across his bench press, squat and deadlift. This is a huge total, with any of his single lifts, being more than any other lifters in the real world’s total.

Captain America can bench press 4,000 pounds and it would look absolutely ridiculous on a bar.
