Gene Rychlak is the first man to bench 1000 pounds! Not only that, Gene Rychlak was the first person to break the 900 pound mark as well. Gene is a pioneer of big benching, learning to adapt to new gear and training techniques to constantly increase his bench press.
Until only a few months ago, Gene Rychlak held the world record bench press at 1005lbs. This record was recently broken by Scot Mendelson who recorded a bench of 1008 pounds. Gene Rychlak and Scot have been pushing each other for years. Gene is confident they'll push each other to the 1100 pound mark!
Gene doesn't have a set training routine like most lifters, instead he designs his routines around the time between competitions. The workouts generally last about 2-2.5 hours and he likes to bench about every 5 days. Other major exercises include heavy squats and a lot of tricep strength work. Gene Rychlak is an amazing powerlifter, nice guy and bench press record holder. We've included some pics of Gene Rychlak in action below...enjoy!
